About us
Safe space bookstore emerged as a natural outcome of several years of work on educational and community activities. We are a place where feminism, human rights, sustainability and community meet in a unique space full of queer joy, employing disadvantaged people and open to all.
Our journey
The founders Jana and Killian started with an online educational platform Respektuju, which became a voice in topics of minorities and discriminated groups. A team of 50+ volunteers was created and they spoke at dozens of lectures at schools and public debates.
It soon became clear that online space alone was not enough. There was a need for a place where people could learn, discuss and grow together – that's why Safe space bookstore was created.
What we do

How we ensure safety and inclusion
Safe environment

Accessibility
Sensitive settings for neurodivergent visitors and mental health support.
Financial accessibility
Voluntary entrance fee, free wi-fi, water and charging, long opening hours.
Our challenges and needs
Current situation
Food service helped us launch the space, but long-term it is unsustainable. The pressure for turnover and pace is incompatible with caring for the community and our team's capabilities.
What we really need
- Sustainable financing of community operations (not café business)
- Dignified wages without dependence on food service profit
- Financial capacity for administrative work, which we must do in our free time (accounting, organization, communication, space care)
- Stable support for the educational program and its long-term coordination
What really sustains us
Paying for "invisible" work
Care, organization, building relationships and presence are work – they deserve wages.
Building relationships
A space where relationships and change are created – not just revenue.
Education over profit
We put our energy into learning, dialogue and community life.
Planned activities (2025)
Developing solidarity through dialogue
Regular dialogue meetings, non-hierarchical education about human rights, sharing experiences, involvement in the European Solidarity Corps program.
Program expansion
Larger cultural events, connecting with books and e-shop, deeper cooperation with NGOs, Locals for locals program to support people in need.
Our values
Intersectional feminism
We fight for everyone's rights.
Sustainability
Vegan operation with low carbon footprint.
Inclusion
Space open to all without discrimination.
Community
Relationships and solidarity before performance.
Education
Critical thinking and empathy as the foundation of change.
Together we shift energy from receipts and poured beers to relationships, education and solidarity.
